Conan and NCB are All Done! PDF Print E-mail

Conan and NCB are all doneSo the final settlement has now been reached - Conan O'Brien and NBC can sleep easier now.

Especially Conan - just in case he really wants to get right back to work fast. That means - that part of the agreement where he couldn't do another show anywhere until September has been removed.

And he will get the full $32.5 million - so that's not bad at all! His staff is not going out empty-handed either, NCB will pay them $7.5 million. Plus - his executive producer is walking away with a healthy $4.5 million. Adding it all up - $45 million - whoa!

Conan's last show will be this Friday and there has not been an announcement as to who or what will replace him until the coverage of Winter Olympics starts.

I have an idea! How about " The Best of Conan?" or maybe "The Best of Jay"? Whatever - let's talk about something else the next time!

Conan and NBC Saga Continues PDF Print E-mail

Conan and NBC Saga ContinuesSo we all already know that the loss of "The Tonight Show" has brought Conan O'Brien a healthy settlement of $32.5 million bucks. And that goes with his agreement to take a break from TV til September (Oh I bet that hurts!) And if you think the $32.5 mil is a total - you are wrong! He also gets a severance pay, so the total is now somewhere close to $40 million. But - there is a little glitch in this great sounding agreement - and it may mean that Conan will not eer see all the money! Under the terms of the agreement, any money that Conan makes during the remaining contract period with NBC will offset the payout. So - if he was to move to Fox and make a deal with them for $25 million, NBC would only have to give him $7.5 million.( Ya - I do feel funny stating the "only") That makes me wonder - if he was to make a deal with anyone - for let's say $50 million - does that mean he would owe NBC $17.5 million. I do hope that is not what he is signing!

Bad enough that it really looks like NBC may be keeping its intellectual property rights and that means that Conan can't take his creative ideas like Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to his next post.BooHooo!

And now for the fun part - Conan is also forbidden from trashing NBC and they are all trying to figure out for how long.

Well Conan - we all hope you have really, really good lawyers, cause it sure looks like NBC guys are pretty sharp!

Michael Jackson Estate Update PDF Print E-mail

Michael Jackson Estate Update

Just in case you were wondering - how much do Michael Jackson's kids get for a monthly allowance - it has just been upped from $60,000!

Judge in the Michael Jackson's estate case just ruled that way on Wednesday and reason given was that the guardian and lawyers underestimated the monthly expences. The exact amount to total allowance was not revealed, but one things is pretty sure - they are going to be well taken care of!

Meanwhile, there is still quite a bit going on with the estate and new creditors keep popping up all the time!

And can you believe that an alleged do-gooder has filed a claim against the estate - on behalf of the City of Los Angeles? This guy - Jose Freddie Vallejos filed the claim based on it being illegal for the city to underwrite the Michael Jackson memorial that cost $3.3 million. He claims that the memorial benefited the estate so the estate should pay.

Another creditor's claim was filed by a woman who says that she had a very special bond with MJ. The filing is a bit cryptic - Shellie Doreen Smith claims that she was married to MJ in the 1970's - but she can remember when. Now - that is almost too funny to go into!

The estate is taking hits from all sides - the newest creditor to come forward is a company that claims it's owed money for re-financing the MIJAC catalog. The claim is for $328,299.03 in unpaid fees to a small investment banking firm from Baltimore - Signal Hill Capital. The unpaid fees are apparently related to music publishing assets.

So - in total, it looks like the MJ estate  now has a grand total of all creditor's claim exceeding $20 million - and that is no chump change!

Jay and Conan – the Battle Goes On PDF Print E-mail

Conan and Jay

Conan should be scratching his head and firing some people right about now - we hear that his contract has no mention about time slots for his show - and Jay's certainly does. So Jay will get his one hour show back and it will be again called "The Tonight Show".

The NBC powers still have to have a sit in with Jay's reps and do the finishing touches on the deal and that pretty much deals the fact that Conan will be leaving - and not leaving on good terms!

You can tell by his comments - for one, he called Jay's show a "comedy program" and he will not talk to NBC guys anymore. He is now chatting away with Fox people about a late night show from 11 to midnight. And we are pretty sure this whole issue will go away and both Conan and Jay will have what they want. But do they know?

About McGwire’s Claim to Fame PDF Print E-mail

About McQwire's claim to fameWe were wondering - can you cheat and get away with it? Apparently so - because the officials at the Baseball Hall of Fame have confirmed that Mark McGwire's records setting bat will remain on display. And no comment on his confession that he used performance enhancing drugs. So - the record remains and so does the bat - enhanced by a disclaimer noting "mounting evidence" and noting that displayed articles are showcased "without respect to suspicions" of illegal substance use.

Give me a break - the guy cheated!
